- Drainage: Place crocks (broken terracotta) or gravel at the bottom of the pot to prevent waterlogging.
- Staking (Crucial): Insert a sturdy stake into the pot before the rose to avoid root damage. The stake should reach the top of the stem where the branches begin.
- Positioning: Fill the pot halfway with your soil mix. Place the rose centrally so the graft union (the bump at the base of the stems) sits about 5cm (2 inches) below the pot's rim.
- Filling: Spread the roots out and backfill with the remaining compost. Firm the soil down firmly with your hands to remove air pockets.
- Securing: Use soft tree ties to secure the stem to the stake in a figure-of-eight pattern—one tie near the top (below the graft) and one halfway down.
- Watering: Water generously immediately after planting until it drains from the bottom.
- Location: Place in a sunny spot receiving at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Because 'Minerva' can scorch, a position sheltered from the harshest afternoon sun is ideal.
